LANTERN & LIGHT INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S FILM FESTIVAL

A festival of films made by young people aged 6 – 18

October 2020

“Giving voice to our children for their future”

THE FESTIVAL

YES, A FESTIVAL!

The LLICFF is a festival of films made by young people. The inaugural festival was held in 2019 when three days of International and Australian short films specifically made by young people were officially selected and screened, with prestigious awards given to the best film in various categories.

The 2020 festival is even bigger and will feature more films and special events. It also has a special regional focus with schools and individual young students encouraged to participate, a great opportunity for the regions budding filmmakers.

This is a very exciting initiative being pioneered by Ranges Academy of Performing Arts ( RAPA) Inc. and it’s director, Rainsford Towner.

WHY A FESTIVAL?

The word ‘festival’ draws from the Latin ‘festum’, which means celebration, joyous, festive. This festival is a celebration of the visions of young people and to uncover their voice the world over, to empower them to talk about their future and bring their films into the light. The festival is a focus for individuals, schools and youth organisations to embrace the stories of their young people and see them realised for the BIG SCREEN.

SO COME, PARTICIPATE,HAVE FUN.

The Yarra Ranges is a wonderfully rich cultural area of Australia.

We will be honored to welcome you.

BELGRAVE LANTERN PARADE

LLICFF runs parallel to this beautiful community event where thousands gather to display and parade their lanterns, and the streets of Belgrave are flooded with extraordinary lantern creatures and other imaginative lanterns, some massive, some as a small as a ball. Families come for miles to enjoy this event.

The LLICFF  is proud to hold a special FREE EVENT after the Belgrave Lantern Parade. Screenings of the finalists in the festival will be up on the big screen at 7.30pm on Saturday  20th JUNE so head to the Cameo Cinema after the Lantern Parade with all the family and enjoy watching the best short films made by young people from around the world.

NO BULLIES HERE

SPECIAL CATEGORY THEME

This is a film entry category for individuals and schools that can choose to use this as their film’s theme. There is no obligation to do so, entries will be accepted for all concepts. However bullying is not nice and you might have a creative idea that can unveil some of the issues around bullying.

Think of the term NO BULLIES HERE as a signpost. A place where no bullies are allowed, like a signpost at the entry to your school, or your town, or city.

Imagine a massive billboard that read

NO BULLIES HERE

Imagine a sign on the fence of your school that read

NO BULLIES HERE

Imagine there were no bullies anywhere!

Have you had an experience about bullying? Have you or one of you friends been bullied? This is an opportunity to make a film and tell your story so that others can understand.

And…your film could be seen on the BIG SCREEN and even win the SPECIAL LIGHT AWARD ‘NO BULLIES HERE’ prize and be seen around the world.

Use your imagination to place it in your story somehow.

Oh, and the film must be under 10 minutes in length.
