LANTERN & LIGHT INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S FILM FESTIVAL
A festival of films made by young people aged 6 – 18
20th November 2021
“Giving voice to our children for their future”
An exciting opportunity for up to TEN local schools to receive FREE in-school FILMMAKING MENTORING!
The local Community Bank® branches of Bendigo Bank have approved funding to Ranges Academy of Performing Arts (RAPA) Inc. to provide filmmaking mentoring to schools in the region.
RAPA is a Not-For-Profit organisation that is already running classes for young people ages 7-18 in Filmmaking, Drama and Dance, and has launched the Lantern & Light International Children’s Film Festival.
Filmmaking encourages storytelling talents and media literacy. The ability to communicate in a medium that is so familiar to young people empowers them to achieve things they never thought possible.
Whether a young person has film-making ambitions or not, film-making develops lifelong skills including teamwork, collaboration, preparation, planning, and entrepreneurial skills as students transform their ideas into their own original short films.
Mentoring opportunities will be offered to schools in the Yarra Valley and Knox demographic that choose to participate in the Lantern & Light Int. Children’s Film Festival.
This exciting initiative recognises that whilst some teachers & schools might be excited to engage in making a film with their students, they might not have the necessary film production background to do so.
This can integrate into existing curriculum activities including literacy, writing, story construction, sciences, environment and social awareness.
This has been made possible by the local Community Bank branches of Bendigo Bank, Monbulk, Upwey, Belgrave & Cockatoo
